The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project “New Beginnings: Initiative for Overcoming Addictions” (2024-1-PL01-KA152-YOU-000220301) took place in Lublin, Poland, from 9 to 16 December 2024. Coordinated by Stowarzyszenia Polish Healthy Life Association, the project brought together young people from Türkiye, Austria, Italy and Poland, with GrüneInitiative Verein participating as a partner organization. The project aimed to raise awareness about addiction-related issues, encourage healthy lifestyles, and strengthen international cooperation through non-formal learning and intercultural exchange.

Team-building and social interaction activities played an important role in helping participants develop trust, cooperation, and communication skills. Through interactive and game-based exercises, young people experienced the value of working together toward a common goal and learned how mutual support can help individuals overcome challenges. These activities highlighted the importance of solidarity and positive social relationships in preventing harmful behaviors and promoting personal well-being.

Creative drama and role-playing workshops provided participants with an opportunity to explore the consequences of gambling addiction from different perspectives. Through scenarios inspired by real-life situations, participants examined issues such as financial loss, family conflicts, fraud, and social exclusion caused by gambling. Presenting these stories to local audiences helped participants understand the power of awareness-raising activities while strengthening their ability to communicate important social messages effectively.

Community outreach activities, surveys, and direct conversations with local residents enabled participants to gain deeper insights into public perceptions of gambling and addiction. By collecting opinions, analyzing responses, and sharing educational materials, participants improved their research, communication, and critical thinking skills. These activities also increased the local visibility of the project and encouraged meaningful dialogue between young people and the wider community about the risks associated with addictive behaviors.

Cultural exploration activities and intercultural exchange events further enriched the learning experience by allowing participants to discover the historical and cultural heritage of Lublin while sharing their own traditions with others. Through cultural presentations, dissemination activities, and evaluation sessions, participants enhanced their intercultural competence, leadership abilities, teamwork skills, and sense of social responsibility. As a result, the project contributed significantly to both personal development and the promotion of greater awareness about addiction prevention among young people and local communities.
