As part of the “Roots of Sustainability” Youth Exchange Project, participants representing GrüneInitiative Verein took part in a series of educational and practical activities designed to promote environmental awareness and sustainable lifestyles. These activities supported the overall objective of the project: empowering young people to become active contributors to environmental sustainability through learning, creativity, and community engagement.
One of the key activities focused on exploring recycling and waste management. Through panel discussions, presentations, videos, and interactive debates, participants examined how different materials such as paper, plastic, and glass are collected, processed, and recycled. The sessions encouraged young people to reflect on the environmental impact of waste and to better understand the importance of responsible consumption and recycling practices.
Participants also transformed theory into practice through a hands-on workshop where they created plantable seed paper from recycled newspapers and waste paper. This activity demonstrated how discarded materials can be given a second life while also contributing positively to the environment. By producing paper embedded with seeds, participants experienced a creative example of circular economy principles and sustainable resource use.
Another highlight of the project was the Innovative Recycling Workshop, where participants worked together to repurpose everyday waste materials into useful products. Using items such as cardboard, plastic bottles, tin cans, and old textiles, they designed practical and decorative objects that showcased the value of reusing materials instead of discarding them. Through these activities, participants developed practical sustainability skills while discovering how creativity can play an important role in reducing waste and protecting the environment.
