The Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project “Recycling for a Greener Future,” hosted by Kastamonu Kalkınma Sağlık Çevre Eğitim ve Turizm Vakfı and bringing together partner organizations from Türkiye, Georgia, Germany, Austria, and Denmark, was successfully completed with its sixth and final day of activities. The day began with an energizing and interactive icebreaker activity in which participants used body language and creativity to act out different professions and characters. This enjoyable session encouraged communication, teamwork, and creativity while creating a positive atmosphere for the project's closing day.
One of the most significant activities of the day was the environmental clean-up initiative. Working in groups, participants carried out a clean-up activity in a designated area of Kastamonu, putting sustainable practices into action. Equipped with gloves and waste bags, the young people collected litter and highlighted the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining a clean environment. At the end of the activity, participants gathered for group photos with the collected waste, sending a strong message about the importance of combating environmental pollution and inspiring the local community to take similar action.
The program also included a visit to the Kastamonu Municipality Climate Change and Zero Waste Directorate, where participants learned about local efforts to address climate change and promote sustainable waste management. Following the stakeholder visit, a cultural city tour was organized, including visits to Nasrullah Mosque and Square, Kastamonu Castle, the Kastamonu Ethnography Museum, and the UNESCO-listed Mahmut Bey Mosque. Through this experience, participants discovered the rich history and cultural heritage of Kastamonu while strengthening intercultural understanding and dialogue among the international group.
The day concluded with a final evaluation and farewell event, providing participants with the opportunity to reflect on their experiences, learning outcomes, and personal development throughout the project. After completing the final online evaluation surveys, participants received their Youthpass certificates during the closing ceremony. Accompanied by music, conversations, and shared memories, the farewell gathering became a meaningful celebration of the friendships and connections built throughout the project.
As GrüneInitiative Verein, through this project we aimed to increase young people's awareness of recycling, sustainable lifestyles, and environmental protection while strengthening their sense of responsibility toward environmental challenges. We also sought to provide participants with valuable intercultural learning experiences and support the development of essential competences such as teamwork, communication, leadership, and problem-solving. We are proud to see participants return home not only with greater environmental awareness but also with a stronger understanding of active citizenship, European values, and the positive impact they can create within their communities.
